About Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for the Plant Science team. In this role, you will work closely with plant scientists, the internal engineering team, and outside integrators to design research spaces, help commission and maintain those spaces, and integrate new tools into research spaces.

What You'll Do

  • Design layout and integrate equipment into different research environments
    • Work with Plant Scientists to determine space requirements
    • Size electrical and HVAC loads
    • Select equipment, design custom if necessary, to meet research needs
    • Work with controls engineer to formalize BOM and create control schemes
    • Work with install team, contractors and project manager through construction process
    • Commission rooms and ensure all requirements are met
  • Make alterations to research environments as necessary to meet needs of specific experiments
  • Help research, design or purchase, equipment for new crop varieties
  • Design, create and implement new tools for Plant Science team the increase speed, confidence, or reduce labor of running trials.
  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

What We're Looking For

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamic and fluid dynamic systems
    • Experience developing P&ID diagrams a plus
    • Experience sizing and selecting, or designing HVAC systems a plus
  • Experience with high voltage electrical systems
  • Experience with electrical and circuit design, and integrating with PLCs
  • Experience with 3D modeling, part design and assemblies
    • Experience laying out larger spaces in models
  • Ability to work Plant Scientists and others to develop project requirements
  • Experience with equipment safety systems
  • Analytical and creative problem solver that can clearly articulate complex engineering principles
  • Strongly collaborative
