Director, Post-Harvest Physiology
Plenty is a rapidly growing indoor agriculture start-up with a strong vision for the improvement of the consumer experience and the availability and nutrition of agricultural products. The department of Plant Science is seeking a Director, Post-Harvest Physiology to build a world class postharvest lab. The successful candidate will be expected to build a team of scientists and technicians to guide our continually expanding offering of crops including fruits and vegetables.
The successful candidate will establish a vigorous and dynamic postharvest research program. The research will focus on postharvest physiology and biochemistry of horticultural crops. It is expected that the research program will draw upon practical knowledge of postharvest processes and technology to investigate the physiology of harvested horticultural crops through the postharvest chain including handling, packaging, storage and transportation, with the goal of developing sustainable handling systems.
This position provides the opportunity to investigate fundamental physiological and biochemical principles and processes that determine how harvested plant products respond to their environment and how this affects their longevity and/or quality.
An intended outcome of these discoveries will be the development of improved postharvest handling practices and/or technologies that will ultimately improve the postharvest quality of fruits, vegetables and greens.
Develop baseline shelf-life/fresh-life performance for all Plenty crops in development
Collaborate across plant science and engineering to explore and develop post-harvest systems for production farms and
Trial treatments for the enhancement of postharvest performance while prioritizing company vision to market and consumer preference
Organize and maintain the integrity of data as well as preparing and analyzing data as well as sharing outcomes and blockers
Ph.D. in plant physiology, biology, horticulture, biochemistry or a related discipline with experience and documented central focus in postharvest plant physiology.
Candidates with a strong background in plant physiology and biochemistry are desired.

Plenty is here to change the way people eat, making extraordinary flavor and nutrition more available in a way that's better for people and the planet. We build farms that can put craveable flavor first while delivering exceptional yields. And our produce is always pesticide-free and grown using less than 1% of the land and 5% of the water of outdoor farming.
