The engineers at Plenty are revolutionizing the way humans grow food. We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Thermal Systems team to help create the most efficient farms that the world has ever seen.

About Role

As a Thermal System Deployment Engineer on the Thermal Systems team, you will be on-site at new farms bringing online the HVAC and environmental control systems which enable Plenty to grow the world’s best produce. And by ensuring the efficient validation and bringup of new HVAC systems, you will be helping drive prices to a point where our produce will be available to everyone. In this role, you will be part of a passionate and dynamic team that is developing new technology from the ground up.

What You'll Do

  • Lead new farm thermal system bring-up for for some of the world’s largest indoor farms
  • Drive root cause analysis and implementation of solutions to system issues drawing on previous HVAC equipment experience and physics based understanding of thermal systems
  • Perform sensor calibration, equipment stress tests and equipment performance validation on industrial chillers, air handlers, fluid coolers and other HVAC equipment
  • Deploy sensors and use data analysis skills to validate air distribution system and plant environment
  • Ensure system uptime and stability before farm is delivered to farm operations team
  • Collaborate with controls and thermal system design team to run validation experiments on new farms 
  • Travel to new farm construction sites within the US and abroad (~50% travel)

What We're Looking For 

  • Strong background in HVAC, manufacturing equipment commissioning, or construction support of new commercial/industrial scale plants and facilities
  • Comprehensive and physics based understanding of existing HVAC technologies
  • Deeply analytical, self sufficient and creative problem solver that can drive to root cause on complex system failures and clearly articulate their findings to others
  • B.S or M.S. in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Exceptionally collaborative
