The people and teams who make up Plenty are at the core of how we do that. We are an ag-tech company looking for a Science Operations Manager who will be responsible for working with scientists and multiple other teams to execute research plans.

About Role

As a Science Operations Manager, you will partner with various scientists to ensure the successful execution of their research lines and experiments. You’ll also foster deep relationships with many teams across Plenty, including Farm Operations, Engineering, and Program Management, to share results and resources. 

What You'll Do

  • Schedule spaces, people, and other resources required for successful scientific experiments. 

  • Work with scientists to maintain experiment and project timelines.

  • Understand why research lines are important to Farm Operations, Engineering, and the company as a whole. Work with the team to keep inter-dependent research on track.

  • Work across locations to share research results, organize new questions, and maintain alignment between various stakeholders. Foster strong relationships between teams.

  • As requested, coordinate communications with the General Manager, Research Manager, and program managers outside the team. 

  • Ensure the completion of daily checklists, safety, operations, and sanitation logs. 

  • Ensure that assigned experimental spaces are functioning and performing to specification.
  • Work with science teams to execute research roadmaps.

  • Uphold safety standards as directed.

  • Conduct root cause analyses on successes and failures.

  • Hold your own and other teams to the on-time completion of daily activities, experiments, projects, and other action items. 

  • Balance competing research objectives.

  • Verify the completeness and accuracy of data shortly after its collection.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of prior experience as a project, program, or operations manager or equivalent role

  • Past experience in a research- or agriculture-oriented industry preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated past experience managing to a budget

  • Demonstrated past experience as a team lead 

  • Familiarity with project and program management tools, such as Confluence, Smartsheets, etc.

  • Familiarity with 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and/or other problem-solving frameworks

  • Introductory knowledge of Plant Science and/or Controlled Environment Agriculture preferred

  • Other: Occasional travel (~10-20%) required and occasional weekend work required (1 weekend per quarter)
