About Role

As the Genomics Research Lead you will work to develop and lead research programs for gene discovery and trait development to accelerate plant breeding and increase product value for indoor crop production.

What You'll Do

  • Establish a scientific laboratory; build and managing a team with strong background in genome editing and other molecular techniques to accelerate product development

  • Lead the design and implementation of research projects to develop crop varieties with value-added traits such as improved flavor, nutrition and food functionality, using gene editing and other molecular breeding techniques in collaboration with the breeder and a multidisciplinary R&D team 

  • Build a network and integrate knowledge acquired through literature, symposia, and conferences in the genome editing field with the latest developments

  • Educate and guide technicians and other researchers for accurate experimental design, data collection, analysis, time management, organization and optimization of work processes

  • Prioritize tasks according to company’s goals and be flexible to adapt approaches to be more effective and efficient to meet deadlines

  • Budget planning and management to improve efficiency and profitability

  • Operate in a scientific laboratory, with growth chambers and rooms, carrying out experiments involving plants, chemicals, and LED lighting

  • Write project entry and exit reports, and communicate results clearly with scientific and non-scientific peers and managers

  • Works under fast-paced environment and frequently with a computer screen

  • Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • PhD in Genomics and Molecular Plant Breeding

  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in academia or industry

  • Has a thorough understanding of molecular techniques and gene editing, is well acquainted with  laboratory and growth chamber experiments

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of important traits and market and how it drives research 

  • Strong team building and leadership skills to lead direct reports and multiple projects for successful outcome

  • Experience in IP generation and patent application 

  • Strong background in quantitative genetics 

  • Strong knowledge and experience in genome editing, precision breeding, and  bioinformatics

  • Experience with trait discovery and gene editing in tomato is preferred

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Competence and creativity for pursuing changing tasks within an area of expertise

  • Highly collaborative and ability to work independently 

  • Detail-orientation, laser-like focus, problem solving, innovation, and solid analytical skills 

  • Recording, processing and analyzing all data in electronic systems using the most efficient data sources/software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, G-Suite)

  • Creative, works systematically and shows great perseverance

  • Management, development, and coaching experience
