About Role

Crop Development Leads will report to the New Crops Managing Scientist and assist them in the science, strategy and management of new crops.  Utilizing existing technology and all current cultural and technological learnings from diverse crops to help develop and optimize production in Plenty’s unique system.  Fast paced and challenging with the opportunity to apply experience from field and hydroponic learnings while continuing a fast pace of professional development.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate with the New Crops Manager to establish a plan for development and optimization

  • Work to develop research schedules and organize team workflow for rapid development and a swift turn-over of research areas

  • Identify pests and take action to contain and reduce the impact of them on research goals and trials

  • Utilize Microsoft office suite and google documents to record and track progress of trials and to share out results and progress as required

  • Work closely with other plant science teams to coordinate the integration of light, HVAC, transpiration control, irrigation and nutrient work

  • Generate entry and exit reports for process-based projects and crop summaries

  • Work with plant science engineering to develop prototype systems and to troubleshoot and improve current systems

What We're Looking For

  • MS in horticulture, agriculture, agronomy or botany (with applied plant science experience)

  • 2 years of specific field or CEA experience

  • Ability to identify common crop pests and understand symptoms associated with poor cultural practices

  • Ability to organize projects and maintain timelines for tracking progress

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize business goals and generate results under pressure and with limited oversight

  • Proven ability to lead as demonstrated by a minimum 5 years’ experience leading a team and managing diverse tasks   

  • Preferred (but not required): pesticide license (ability to get a current WY license), experience with R, SASS or other statistical platforms, and experience in hydroponic/aquaponic growing and systems
