The people and teams who make up Plenty are at the core of how we do that. We are an ag-tech company looking for a General Manager to lead the management and operations in our first farm outside of San Francisco. 

About Role

In this role you will be responsible for launching and operating our newest indoor vertical farm in order to grow fresh, delicious, high quality produce for local communities in the region. You will lead and manage the execution and optimization of farm operations, including production, warehouse, deliveries, facilities and maintenance; you will have full P&L responsibility. As the leader of our new market, you will also be the champion of our culture and brand in the region and your work will make a positive impact on plants, people, and the planet.

What You'll Do 

  • Launch and operate farm
    • Launch our first farm outside of San Francisco, including leading farm operations from commissioning through to steady state production
    • Lead all aspects of farm operations, including but not limited to production, safety, warehouse, raw materials, deliveries, facilities, and maintenance in order to grow and deliver exceptional produce and make a profit
    • Full P&L responsibility 
    • Develop operations plan and budget, including production line operating assumptions, overtime, labor requirements, minimum run quantities, yield, productivity, throughput assumptions, etc.
    • Work with the production supervisors to develop an optimized labor schedule to support production according to schedule
    • Ensure compliance of all worker safety, food safety, quality control, material handling, sanitation and regulatory procedures and protocols
    • Ensure that product meets quality standards and be responsible for on time and accurate delivery of product to customers 
    • Handle high level escalations
    • Establish dashboard and achieve performance targets that demonstrate a successful launch and operations
    • Identify and administer continuous improvement initiatives that reduce waste, improve yield, lower overall cost of production, and improve processes
    • Hire, lead, and develop a stellar team to run the daily operations of the farm
  • Champion our culture and brand 
    • Champion our culture and brand as the public face of Plenty within the community
    • Support farm tours

What We're Looking For 

  • Minimum ten years manufacturing experience; food industry experience a plus, growing produce another plus
  • Experience launching a new production line or facility
  • Demonstrated success hiring, building and leading high performing teams; good coaching, professional development, and mentoring skills 
  • Ability to set and execute on the strategic objectives for the facility
  • Previously managed a P&L to success for a business with experience in financial management and performance metrics
  • Previous responsibility for workforce safety (prior cultural experience with active compliance)
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and analytical skills; strong oral/written communication skills; strong prioritization skills
  • Experience with lean manufacturing; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt a plus
  • Food Safety/HACCP training preferred 
  • A desire to champion our culture and brand
