At Plenty, we’re on a mission to give people in local communities everywhere access to the freshest, most amazing tasting produce possible. And to do so in a way that’s better for the planet.

About Role

The engineering team at Plenty is on a mission to completely redesign the way humanity grows food in order to satisfy the nutritional needs of the world by making the highest quality produce available to everyone. Doing so requires us to reimagine farms as highly integrated and aggressively optimized engineered systems and to draw upon experience and strategies from high volume product design (cars, consumer devices, etc). To that end, we are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team in developing custom automation equipment. In this role, you will apply your skills, experience, and creativity to accelerate humanity’s progression toward a perpetual food system scaled to meet the needs of our growing and changing world.

What You'll Do

  •  Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers to deliver a variety of custom automation equipment
  • Define process sequences and operational targets for novel automated lines and workflows
  • Influence and refine design philosophy with particular emphasis on the nuances of food safety, high reliability, and elegance in operation and maintenance
  • Contribute to all phases of project lifecycle from requirements gathering and prototyping through to equipment commissioning and validation
  • Collaborate with plant scientists, farm operators and engineers within and external to the automation design team

What We're Looking For

  • Experience managing project teams in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience designing custom automation equipment and mechanism design
  • Experience collaborating with equipment integrators
  • Knowledge of a variety of technologies commonly used in automated equipment (motors, pneumatics, etc.)
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to communicate about technical requirements and features clearly with non-experts
  • Strong hands-on prototyping abilities, and deep experience in solid modeling (Solidworks, Catia, etc)
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
