Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Sensor and Vision

About Role

At Plenty, we are building out a team of engineers to tackle problems that reimagine the way humanity grows food. In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to develop the systems that revolutionize agriculture. You will design sensor and vision hardware that brings intelligence to indoor agriculture that doesn't already exist. 

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design of intelligent agricultural sensing systems from concept to global deployment

  • Design components of the farm that are reliable, cost-effective and manufacturable so that our business can scale

  • Create drawings and maintain engineering documentation

  • Work in an agile environment with rapid prototyping cycles

  • Design your components and assemblies in tight collaboration with electrical and firmware engineers
  • Collaborate with different company teams, including farm operations, plant science, computer science, marketing, and business development

  • Mentor younger engineers to help improve their designs and processes

  • Develop and execute reliability tests for electro-mechanical hardware

What We're Looking For

  • Firsthand familiarity with manufacturing techniques including: sheet metal forming, PCBA fabrication, injection molding, extruding, casting, machining, 3D printing

  • Extensive familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks

  • Experience designing electronic packaging

  • Experience with manufacturing tools, methods and best practices for medium to high volume products

  • Knowledge of GD&T and ASME standards

  • Experience working within a PLM system and creating ECOs

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design

  • BS degree or higher in mechanical engineering or closely related field
  • Nice to Have:

    • Experience selecting, mounting and integrating vision systems

    • Experience designing parts or systems with compliance and regulatory requirements

    • Experience designing and troubleshooting basic electrical systems
