About Role

At Plenty, we are building out a team of engineers to tackle problems that reimagine the way humanity grows food. In this role, you will work on an interdisciplinary team to architect, create, implement and test the firmware that makes our in-house designed sensors, controllers and other hardware work.

What You'll Do

  • Architect hardware based solutions for farming that set Plenty apart from everyone else in this space

  • Develop well structured and commented code that is versioned, peer reviewed, and tested

  • Develop and optimize device routines focused on:

    • Sensor data collection

    • Transmission of data

    • Remote software updates

    • Device power management

  • Predict or evaluate the impact of code on power consumption

  • Work with data engineers  to create data pipelines to support farm-level decision making

  • Work with hardware design engineers to select and implement sensors, processors, control circuitry and communication protocols

  • Work with industrial automation engineers to implement and select control methodologies and protocols

     

What We're Looking For

  • A BS degree with 2-3+ years of industry experience

  • Someone with an electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or similar background.

  • Experience in low-power device development.

  • A demonstrated record of bringing embedded devices to market.
  • Experience developing C/C++ embedded code for multiple different types of MCU's.

  • Ability to read schematics and data sheets.

  • Ability to use common lab tools for bring-up and diagnosis like oscilloscopes, meters and power supplies. 

  • Nice to have skills:
    • Environmental sensor experience.

    • Experience with wired and wireless communication protocols including Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, RS485 and Ethernet.

    • ARM Cortex experience.

    • Light control experience.

    • Experience developing long-lifetime IoT devices for use in harsh environments.

    • Experience with RTOS implementation.

    • SQL and database API experience.

    • Security and encryption implementation for embedded devices.
