About the role

Plenty is looking for an Associate Manager, Plant Sciences Lab to join our Plant Science team. The Plant Science team is focused on running trials and experiments to learn how to bring the highest quality produce to the world. In this role, you will be engaged with the company’s efforts to enhance the production and research of crops in various hydroponic growing environments. As an Associate Lab Manager, Plant Sciences Lab, you will coordinate the project scheduling, manage the inventory, and establish lab resources for executing the routine work for various research projects including postharvest quality, tissue culture, pathology, physiology, variety screening, and analytical chemistry. You will work with a diverse group of Research & Development (R&D) and Operations teams to ensure that project priorities are aligned with overall R&D and company-wide goals.

What you'll do

  • Manage and prioritize workflows in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accountability
  • Manage inventory, record-keeping, and developing & maintaining SOPs
  • Work closely with R&D Scientists to facilitate projects requiring support from laboratory operations
  • Manage a team of Operations Technicians, ensuring on-time sample processing, routine analyses, and accurate data collection for ongoing research
  • Coordinate daily operations for Operations Technicians and lab equipment. Ensure equipment is properly installed, maintained, and certified for routine use 
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, professional development, and performance management of lab teammates
  • Establish and reinforce policies and procedures to use lab instruments/equipment and ensure lab personnel safety
  • Explore, evaluate, and implement laboratory automation solutions that improve sample analysis throughput, data integrity, and turnaround time
  • Maintain lab policies and ensure the teammates comply with organization and environmental health & safety requirements including chemical storage and waste management policies through routine inspections
  • Willing to be hands-on when needed to complete daily/weekly tasks

What you'll bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Analytical Chemistry, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience working as a Lab Supervisor/Manager
  • Practical experience with lab equipment, analytical instrumentation, and data management systems
  • Dynamic person who takes initiative and can work independently as well as in cross-functional teams with minimal oversight
  • Flexible, collaborative, team-oriented person with good communication skills and ability to develop/execute standard protocols
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with a strong ability to interact professionally at all times
  • Dependable leader that facilitates a supportive team environment and delivers consistent, timely results
  • Ability to reason logically and capacity for independent and creative thinking on research problems
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced company environment with potentially minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with data management systems (LIMs systems) and relevant regulations including GLPs
  • Attention to details with an understanding of the bigger goal/objective
