About Role

Plenty is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team of engineers in reimagining the way food is grown. In this role, you will lead the team responsible for designing the irrigation systems which deliver nutrients to our plants. This role interfaces with many teams within Engineering, Plant Science, and Farm Operations as well as with external suppliers to develop systems that solve for critical farm-level performance objectives. We are looking for an experienced leader who is excited to lead a team of experts and collaborate throughout the organization to deliver designs that drive quality and yield that are unachievable with field agriculture while using a fraction of the water and land required for field agriculture.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a team of Process Engineers and Mechanical Engineers focused on designing and delivering the nutrient and irrigation systems for Plenty’s farms
  • Oversee full cycle design processes from early concept through detailed design and commissioning 
  • Make strategic in-source / outsource decisions for systems, equipment and components
  • Collaborate with the Plant Science and Farm Operations teams to establish design requirements
  • Collaborate with Hardware and Controls Engineering teams to integrate nutrient systems into overall farm design and execute on detailed component / equipment designs

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of applicable engineering experience including 3+ years of experience managing Engineering teams
  • B.S. or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or similar engineering discipline
  • Experience designing fluids systems in one or more of the following industries or similar industries is preferred:
    • Agriculture
    • Pharmaceutical
    • Oil and gas
    • Chemical
    • Water treatment
    • Food and beverage
  • Success leading teams through full lifecycle design projects
  • Successful implementation of systems at scale
  • Experience collaborating with Research Scientists and Production Operators
  • History of navigating ambiguity and evolving requirements in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to understand and communicate tradeoffs in a complex, multivariable design space
  • Team player who will work hands-on in the farm to identify issues and solutions and support cross functional teams

  • Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations.
