About Role

The engineering team at Plenty is on a mission to completely redesign the way humanity grows food in order to satisfy the nutritional needs of the world by making the highest quality produce available to everyone. Doing so requires us to reimagine farms by drawing upon technologies and methodologies from high volume manufacturing. To that end, we are seeking a Staff Manufacturing Engineer to design and implement automation equipment and production processes in our farms. In this role you will work as part of a highly motivated, experienced and creative team to build new kinds of farms which get the world the produce it needs now and into the future.

What You'll Do

  • Develop new production equipment and processes for our farms

  • Design the layout of  production workstations and assembly lines

  • Author automation equipment specifications and manage external equipment vendors and integrators to deliver made to order and custom equipment as needed for the line

  • Write equipment specifications for in-house automation development teams and collaborate with those teams to deliver custom automation equipment for the line

  • Develop acceptance testing documentation for internally and externally built equipment

  • Design, procure and deploy manufacturing automation equipment with the support of in-house automation equipment designers and outside equipment integrators and suppliers

  • Work with controls engineers and software teams to integrate equipment to our customized data systems

  • Perform labor and throughput calculations for commissioning and steady state operations

  • Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures

  • Define critical process control parameters and material traceability requirements

  • Hand off validated equipment to the operations team

  • Make sure Equipment design is of a material suitable for food safety and designed in a way that is smooth and easily cleanable.

What We're Looking For

  • BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • 5+ years industry experience, doing manufacturing engineering, advanced manufacturing engineering, manufacturing system engineering, technical program management or similar

  • Direct experience leading automation equipment and production process projects through full design lifecycle and implementation

  • Track record of outstanding collaboration with operations teams

  • Experience with statistical process control and many examples of data driven process problem solving

  • Experience defining manufacturing execution system requirements for new production processes

  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team to evangelize complex technical concepts.

  • Show understanding of how your individual work fits into the broader company priorities and experience helping drive the broader strategy and roadmap forward.
