About the Role
The engineering team at Plenty is on a mission to completely redesign the way humanity grows food in order to satisfy the nutritional needs of the world by making the highest quality produce available to everyone. Doing so requires us to reimagine farms by drawing upon technologies and methodologies from high volume manufacturing. To that end, we are seeking a Director of Manufacturing Engineer to lead the team designing production lines in our farms. In this role you will work as a manager as well as a hands-on technical leader and you will have the opportunity to create word class manufacturing engineering systems and standards for Plenty. As part of Plenty’s engineering leadership team you will work among a set of highly motivated, experienced and creative peers to lead the development of new kinds of farms which get the world the produce it needs now and into the future.

What You'll Do
As the Director of Manufacturing Engineering at Plenty you will be the manager and technical leader of the team responsible for the following:
Developing new production lines, processes and equipment for Plenty’s farms
Writing automation equipment specifications and managing external equipment vendors and integrators to deliver made-to-order and custom automation equipment
Writing equipment specifications for in-house automation development teams and collaborating with those teams to deliver custom automation equipment
Designing the layout of production workstations and assembly lines
Working with key stakeholders and customers in the operations team to ensure that line designs meet operational requirements
Developing acceptance testing documentation for internally and externally built equipment
Designing, procuring and deploying manufacturing automation equipment with the support of in-house automation equipment designers and outside equipment integrators and suppliers
Working with controls engineers and software teams to integrate equipment to our customized data systems
Performing labor and throughput calculations for commissioning and steady state operations
Characterizing and validating new equipment and fixtures
Defining critical process control parameters and material traceability requirements
Handing off validated production lines and automation equipment to the operations team
What We're Looking For
A seasoned engineering leader with extensive experience managing teams through new production line launches
Strong equipment project management skills working with a range of vendors and integrators
Track record of outstanding collaboration with operations teams
Experience establishing manufacturing engineering best practices and driving adoption
Strong understanding of statistical process control and many examples of data driven process problem solving
Experience defining manufacturing execution system requirements for new production processes
Communication and interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team to evangelize complex technical concepts.
Experience driving broader strategy and roadmap and strong understanding of how your individual work fits into the broader company priorities.
BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
10+ years industry experience, doing manufacturing engineering, advanced manufacturing engineering, manufacturing system engineering, technical program management or similar
Food Safety Requirement
Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations.
Make sure Equipment design is of a material suitable for food safety and designed in a way that is smooth and easily cleanable.
Participate and lead in the annual Management review of the Food Safety and quality system.
Ensure appropriate allocation of resources for food safety and quality and responsible for Food Safety at Plenty.
